TC3 Hosts SUNY Upstate EMT Course on Dryden Campus
In partnership with SUNY Upstate Medical University and ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ County, ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ Cortland Community College is hosting an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course for people interested in earning a new certification, or those in need of a refresher. The course runs from September 2 through December 15, with classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and all day on Saturdays on TC3’s Dryden campus. The course is taught by instructors from SUNY Upstate Medical University.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are entry-level healthcare providers that specialize in pre-hospital emergencies. EMTs respond to a range of emergency calls that may include car accidents, violent traumas, heart attacks, childbirths and falls. Their effectiveness on the scene plays a vital role in saving lives, often performing basic, noninvasive interventions to stabilize patients and transporting them to receive further medical care.
The EMT course consists of 190 hours of lectures and hands-on skill training. A field internship is also required and students will have no less than 10 live patient contacts prior to course completion. Students who ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵfully complete the course and certification exams are eligible to become national registered EMTs.
